• Kindergarten Grade Highlights

    September 2021

Kindergarten is off to a great start! The children have made a wonderful adjustment and have been busy making new friends and learning about rules and routines. We conducted several lessons on safety, including fire safety, bike safety and bus safety. The students have enjoyed listening to many wonderful stories in the classroom, including The Kissing Hand, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, and Chrysanthemum.

We have focused on learning about responsibility and good citizenship. They are noticing the changes of the season around them, as we welcomed in fall. The children have also learned about the numbers 1-5 as part of our EnVisions math program Topic 1, Numbers and Numeration, as well as Topic 2, Comparing Numbers 0 - 5. They are beginning to write in their Writing Journals. This promises to be a fun and exciting year!

We have continued to see our kindergartners blossom! We are working on beginning reading and writing skills, and we are zooming through the alphabet as we meet The Land of the Letter People. In addition, students are learning sight words which will help them become stronger readers and writers. In math, we completed Comparing Numbers 0 – 10, using math vocabulary such as greater than, less than, and equal. We are starting the next unit, Classify and Count Data. In science, students are exploring the 5 senses. We have also focused on the recent holidays including Halloween, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving. The children are having fun and learning each day. We are so thankful to be spending time with your children.

December was a month of sharing family traditions and having holiday fun. The kindergartners celebrated the holidays by learning about Hanukkah, Christmas & Kwanzaa. Throughout the month, children were involved in a Gingerbread Man book study. We read many different versions of the book and compared them. They practiced their artistic skills by illustrating 2022 calendars, which they gave to their parents as a holiday gift. They had fun decorating their own gingerbread houses in class. Thanks to our class captains, Mrs. Taglia, Mrs. Kapadia, and Mrs. Chiari for organizing donations, and to all parents for providing lots of decorative candy. In January, we made New Year’s Resolutions and learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As always, we talked about working to achieve our goals and striving to be the best we can be by showing kindness to others.
