Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

I hope you and your families are doing well and enjoying these final days of summer. Let me just say that I wholeheartedly understand this is not the typical beginning of a new school year, but it is even more reason for me to welcome you and your children with open arms and a huge embrace on behalf of the Board of Education, district administration, faculty and staff! Whether your children are attending school in person or utilizing the Virtual Alternate Learning Plan, we will educate, nurture and protect them as a caring school community, and we will get through this together.

As I’ve shared in prior communications, the health, safety and well-being of North Merrick students, faculty, staff, and parents are at the forefront of all decision-making for the upcoming school year. I want to reassure you that our district is carefully following the guidelines from the National Centers of Disease Control, New York State, and the Nassau County Department of Health, and we have been working collectively with all of the Bellmore-Merrick component school districts in preparing to reopen our schools.

Our Reopening Task Force and seven sub-committees mobilized this summer to carefully and thoughtfully plan for the start of school, and the district will continue to work closely with all stakeholder groups as we progress and navigate through this school year. We will also continue to receive advisement from our Nassau BOCES Health and Safety Specialist as we follow all protocols and procedures.

North Merrick is ever mindful of the social and emotional wellness of children, and the mental health team is ready to provide support for all our students. We will emphasize positivity every school day, starting with the Principal’s Message and a Morning Meeting, and as always, we will promote kindness and empathy.

I truly believe that children thrive when they know what is expected of them and feel supported. Our school community is working collaboratively and creatively, side by side with parents, to help ensure a safe, comfortable and productive environment for the 2020-21 school year.

Welcome back to all, we are so excited for your return!!

    Sincerely yours,

    Dr. Cynthia Seniuk
