Wendy Gargiulo is a lifelong resident who benefited from the superb public education she received in North Merrick where she attended Camp Avenue, MAMS and Calhoun as did her three children Jamie, Jake and Colby.
Over the years, Ms. Gargiulo has held numerous leadership positions in the community. She worked through the ranks of the Camp Ave PTA, serving as president for two years. She was a girl scout leader for seven years, boy scout leader, baseball coach on League of YES for special needs children; served on the Lay Budget Committee, SNAC committee, SAVE committee, and Wellness Committee; and has been consistently attending board meetings for the past 17 years.
Wendy has always advocated for all children especially the underdog. She recognizes there are families in need in our own district and has been a liaison with Merrick Little League for nine years offering free registration to indigent children in our community, partnered with Birthday Fairies who help throw birthday parties for children in need within our school community, and has steadfastly helped families in our district who suffer enormous tragedies by pulling the community together to provide immediate support and relief as needed.
Mrs. Gargiulo was recently appointed by NYSSBA (New York State School Board Association) as an adjunct facilitator on their Leadership Development Team. Her extensive knowledge through training and experience will now be utilized to train other school boards in New York State.
Wendy now enters her eighth year of service on the North Merrick Board of Education, serving as president for the secoond year in a row, and her fourth year of service on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
Ms. Gargiulo has stated that she serves on the Board of Education as a way of giving back to a district that gave her so much. She is passionate about children receiving the best possible education as we move our students toward 21st century learners. Wendy continues to be an advocate for all children and tax payers of North Merrick.
