Voter Information & Registration

Those who run for membership on the Board of Education must:

• Be a citizen of the United States of America;
• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
• Be able to read and write;
• Be a resident of the North Merrick School District continuously for one (1) year;
• Not be an employee of the school district;
• Not be a family member of the Board of Education residing in the same household.

Petitions may be picked up at the Administrative Building, 1057 Merrick Avenue, North Merrick, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Nominating petitions must be submitted to the District Clerk no later than Monday, April 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. to appear on the ballot for the May 19, 2026 election.

Voter Information

In order to vote, you must be:

• A citizen of the United States;
• Eighteen years of age or older;
• A legal resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the vote;
• Registered to vote in general elections or have been registered to vote in the school district.

Voter Registration

Qualified voters may register any school day with the District Clerk, Joanne Long, at the Administration Building at 1057 Merrick Avenue in Merrick between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. 

The deadline to register in person is Thursday, May 14, 2026.  This registration will only allow registrants to vote in the School District Election.

Absentee/early vote ballot applications may be obtained from the District Clerk, Joanne Long, at the Administrative Building, 1057 Merrick Avenue, North Merrick or by downloading below:

If you are a registered voter who resides in the school district, you may use an absentee/early vote ballot to vote in the school election. You may only apply for an absentee/early vote ballot on your own behalf. If you have any questions, please contact the District Clerk, Joanne Long, at 516-292-3695.

Completed absentee/early vote ballot applications may not be received by the District Clerk earlier than Monday, April 20, 2026, and these applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or to the agent named in the absentee/early vote ballot application.

Absentee/early vote ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Military Ballot applications may be obtained from the Office of the District Clerk and submitted to the District Clerk no later than Thursday, April 23, 2026. Military Ballots will be mailed out on Friday, April 24, 2026, and must be filed with the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
