• Update from the Superintendent

    June 16, 2020

    Dear North Merrick Family:

As we come to the close of the 2019-20 school year, we must begin to plan for fall 2020. The district has created a Re-entry Task Force with the goal in mind to provide direction to all stakeholders on how to best reopen our schools in a manner that provides for the health, safety and wellness of students and staff. The work of the task force is to create a plan to achieve this goal that is aligned with the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, NYS Department of Health, NYS Department of Education, Governor Cuomo’s Executive Orders, and other local health and government agencies.

Last week, the Re-entry Task Force met to form sub-committees which organize the key categories of needs and concerns in the reopening of the schools. Additionally, a chairperson was assigned to lead each sub-committee in the necessary work.  Below please find the sub-committees that were formed:

    • Facilities
    • Health and Safety
    • Instruction
      • Special Education
      • Special areas
    • Building Practices
    • Transportation
    • Mental Health
    • Technology

If you would like to participate and volunteer to join one of the above listed sub-committees, please email Maureen Gorman at mgorman@nmerrick.org with your contact information, including your cell phone number and email address, identifying the sub-committee you would like to join. Your information will then be forwarded to the chairperson of the sub-committee you have chosen.

Please note that the meetings will be held via Zoom and will continue through the months of June and July, as all plans must be submitted to New York State by July 15th

Thank you for your commitment to assisting us with this most important work as we move forward in providing the safest environment for students, faculty, staff, and parents.

If you have any questions, please email me at cseniuk@nmerrick.org.

    Sincerely,

    Cynthia Seniuk, Ed.D.
    Superintendent of Schools
