Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program Registration for 2025-26

Children who will be 4 years old by December 1, 2025, may participate in the UPK lottery drawing. The program is only open to North Merrick residents.

Online registration for the UPK lottery will begin on February 7, 2025, at 9 a.m.

Registration remains open until February 28, 2025, at 3 p.m.

2025-2026 Online KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

in alphabetical order on

January 14, 15 and 16,  2025

ELIGIBILITY: Child must be five (5) years old by December 1, 2025

Registration will be in alphabetical order by last name

• Last names beginning with letters A-I, you may register on Tuesday, January 14th
• Last names beginning with letters J-R, you may register on Wednesday January 15th
• Last names beginning with letters S-Z, you may register on Thursday, January 16th

On your scheduled date, you will be required to upload documents as a scan, pdf or jpeg. Before you begin, please prepare the following documents:

1. Child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport
2. Small photo of child
3. Proof of residency
   A. Owner: Current tax bill, current pay stub, deed to house, or current
   mortgage statement.
   B. Renter: Lease agreement along with one of the following: landlord’s
   current tax bill, current pay stub, deed to house, or current mortgage statement.
   C. Living with resident/relative of the district: If renting or living with a relative, you must complete a Residency Affidavit/Parent Affidavit and provide a copy of their current tax bill, pay stub, or mortgage statement (affidavits must be notarized). (download forms)
4. Parent’s driver’s license, non-driver’s license, or passport.

5. Physician signed and stamped immunization record (must provide physician's signed/stamped immunization form or use the attached form) ( download form)

6. New York State physical exam report (download form)

7. Dental form (please provide by the start of the school year) (download form)

8. Language Survey (to be filled out by parent/guardian) ( download form)

Please Note: The alphabetical order for registration will not determine school placement, which is based on enrollment and at the Superintendent's discretion, as necessary.

Early Entrance to Kindergarten

The North Merrick UFSD considers a child eligible for entrance into kindergarten if s/he attains the age before December 2nd of the year s/he applies for entrance. 

At the request of the parent, your child may be tested for early admission to kindergarten if s/he will be five (5) years of age between December 2nd and December 31st. The child must be currently enrolled in a preschool program.  

If your child meets these criteria, and you believe that your child may be a good candidate for early entrance, please register your child as you would during kindergarten registration in January and submit your Early Entrance Packet directly to the Registration Office at registration@nmerrick.org.  

The Early Entrance to Kindergarten Packet will be sent to the Assistant to the Superintendent for PPS & Special Education. The Early Entrance to Kindergarten Committee, comprised of a psychologist, a kindergarten teacher, and the Assistant to the Superintendent for Special Education & PPS, will review your child's application once the evaluation is complete.
