Camp Avenue students learn fire safety essentials

Camp Avenue students learn fire safety essentials

Students at Camp Avenue Elementary School in the North Merrick School District learned the essentials of fire prevention and safety thanks to a visit from the North Merrick Fire Department.

The volunteer firefighters spoke to each class inside the smokehouse, which mimics the interior of a house and shows children how to safely evacuate in the case of a fire. Students learned about potential hazards that can cause a fire and how to best protect themselves in an emergency. Tools and equipment like oxygen tanks showed students what it takes to fight a fire. Students participated in engaged discussions and asked questions about the daily lives of firefighters.
