Community kicks off ‘North Merrick Reads Together’ event

Community members came together to foster a love of reading during the annual North Merrick Reads Together event at the North Merrick Public Library on April 10.

Centered around the heartwarming book “Gooseberry Park and the Master Plan,” students from all three North Merrick schools joined in family-oriented games and activities. Each student attendee received a copy of the book along with a variety of engaging activities to complete as they read through the story. Each of the school libraries will host a trivia quest, where families can answer questions based on the book for a chance to win exciting prizes.

The journey will continue with a special celebration on May 28 at the library, where various faculty, staff and community members will lead read-aloud sessions, taking turns to each share a chapter of the book. Also at the library, high school students will read alongside elementary students, fostering intergenerational connections and a shared love of reading.
