Families find fun at Fayette during North Merrick’s Family Engagement Night

The fun was “out of this world” at Harold D. Fayette School in the North Merrick School District on Oct. 16 as families gathered for a space-themed night of fun activities.

Whether it was solving puzzles, creating messy crafts by hand or partaking in games, students’ curiosities were piqued for the annual districtwide Family Engagement Night. The theme took children to outer space as they were engaged in a wide range of activities that challenged their critical thinking and creativity. Art supplies available to students included paint, markers and the ingredients to make slime, as well as repurposed items such as cardboard tubes, pipe cleaners and googly eyes to make an extraterrestrial friend. Some students chose to create their own moon base using moon sand, while others assembled building blocks to showcase the solar system. Various games had students competing to toss ball into a goal or come out on top in a round of Twister. The districtwide initiative – uniting families from Fayette, Camp Avenue and Old Mill Road schools – is the perfect opportunity to build bonds and pursue an exciting academic interest.
