Fayette School travels back in time with ancient Egyptian museum
Harold D. Fayette School in the North Merrick School District was brought back in time on March 28 as students displayed their in-depth ancient Egyptian crafts in museum style.
A tour of the hallway outside Fayette’s sixth grade classrooms brought views of pyramids, sarcophaguses and canopic jars all intricately crafted using materials of each student’s choosing. After studying the time period in their classes, students chose one aspect of ancient Egyptian culture to represent in 3D form. Letting their imaginations run wild, sixth graders assembled large displays made of Lego, modeling clay, cardboard, paints and any other materials they could think to include. They put forth impressive and eye-catching efforts, such as large sarcophaguses that measured over two feet tall and a balancing scale that creatively repurposes a hanger and lids from a jar. Students were proud to have their efforts displayed outside their classrooms for peers to tour.
