Harold D. Fayette School sixth graders closed the book on their North Merrick School District careers, as they will soon enter middle school following their moving up ceremony on June 25.

Sixth grade singers Joseph Ardito, Mila Botkounov, Ciara Dudley, Nicholas Porcaro, Finn Pottorf, Sienna Roberto, and Catherine Smith opened the ceremony with a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” before members of the Color Guard and the Student Council led the transfer of the colors. Principal Howard Merims, Board President Megan Ryan, Esq., and Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Seniuk welcomed families and commended the graduating class on their perseverance.

Student speakers Shazil Azim, Atonino Policaro and Nicholas Porcaro addressed their peers. Sixth graders performed “Time of Our Lives” and “Unwritten.” Various awards were distributed, including the Danielle Bono Memorial Award sponsored by the PTA and medals from the Merrick Post American Legion. Sixth grade teachers Ms. Drewes, Ms. Borg, and Ms. Naletilic presented diplomas to each of their graduating students. The ceremony concluded with a slideshow of the many memories made at Fayette.
