North Merrick summer music program keeps the music playing

This summer, students in the North Merrick School District kept the music playing through the Instrumental Music program from July 6-29, where they strengthened their musical skills while building confidence and preparing for the upcoming school year.

Combining instrumental practice with creativity and teamwork, the Instrumental Music program helped students stay connected to music while ensuring they are ready to make a strong start when the new school year begins. Throughout the program, students practiced instrumental techniques, refined their performance abilities and worked together in a collaborative and supportive environment. 

As a group, students learned how to play songs that included “Jeopardy” and “Don’t Stop Believing.” Individually, students showcased their skills as they took on solos that prepared them for upcoming NYSSMA auditions. Solos included “March of the Giant” on bass, “Bourree” on violin and “Minuet” on keyboard. 

The program provided young musicians with the opportunity to continue developing their talents, reinforce skills learned during the school year and foster a lifelong appreciation for music.
