North Merrick’s Project HELP comes to Fayette School

North Merrick’s Project HELP comes to Fayette School

Sixth graders at Harold D. Fayette School in the North Merrick School District united with their third-grade peers on Oct. 8 for Project HELP, a districtwide initiative that aims to strengthen bonds and promote a growth mindset.

Through Project HELP, sixth graders learn to be leaders as they take on the role of peer helpers for third graders to provide academic, social and emotional guidance. Sixth graders led groups of third graders as they shared ways they show kindness, generating active and engaged discussions. Third graders’ older peers helped them unleash their creativity, as each student was tasked with decorating one piece of a large puzzle under the theme of kindness. The puzzle, once completed, will form the shape of a heart, featuring each third graders’ individual ideas on fostering a kind and caring community. Project HELP will return to all North Merrick third graders regularly throughout the year.
