Surrounded by cheers from loved ones, sixth graders at Old Mill Road School in the North Merrick School District marked the beginning of their middle school career during their moving up ceremony on June 25.

Sixth graders Lukas Davidow and Rena Rotjan opened the ceremony by leading the Color Guard. Principal Dr. Dominick Palma and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cynthia Seniuk urged graduates to embrace the future with conviction.

Music teacher Rebecca Southard led performances of “A Million Dreams” and “Best Day of My Life.” Graduates Kayleigh Dublin, McKenna Lora and Arturo Matinich gave speeches that reflected on their peers’ triumphs and the future that lies ahead of them.

Several awards were given to graduates before teachers presented each of their students with diplomas. As they recessed to the tune of “Pomp and Circumstance,” the Class of 2026 took their first steps as middle school students.
