Paralympic athlete Blake Leeper visits Old Mill Road students

Students at Old Mill Road Elementary School in the North Merrick School District heard an inspiring story of perseverance and determination from Paralympic athlete Blake Leeper on Jan. 28.

Mr. Leeper, an American Paralympic sprinter who uses prosthetic lower legs, spoke with students of all grades throughout Old Mill Road. Thanks to the PTA, each student received a copy of his book, “Why Not Me?” which Mr. Leeper signed. Students saw a race in which Mr. Leeper won first place, emphasizing that he overcame adversity and nerves to compete on a national level. His message and story showed students that they can achieve anything they set their mind to. The audience cheered and applauded as Mr. Leeper hopped, skipped and ran through the crowd.
