Red Ribbon Week starts with Zen at Old Mill School

Red Ribbon Week starts with Zen at Old Mill School

The students of Old Mill School in the North Merrick School District kicked off Red Ribbon Week with a relaxing session of yoga on Oct. 21.

Classes came prepared with yoga mats and comfy clothes as they were ready to strike poses guided by Sheryl Oleksak, an instructor from Strength and Serenity Retreats. Starting with simple breathing exercises, students slowly worked their way up to more challenging routines. By the end, students were smiling alongside friends as they balanced on one foot and stretched from side to side. The mindful practice of yoga was the start of Red Ribbon Week at Old Mill School, which will include daily themes that will challenge students to dress up for the day in the name of standing against bullying and making healthy choices. It will culminate with a costume day on Halloween.
