Students stack cups towards a record at Old Mill Road School

Students at Old Mill Road School in the North Merrick School District stacked cups towards a world record during a special physical education experience on Nov. 14.

Old Mill Road is participating in the annual World Sport Stacking Association’s Stack Up event with the challenge to break the world record for most cup stackers across multiple locations. Using plastic cups, the challenge involves quickly forming the cups into a pyramid then back down to a complete stack. Old Mill Road graduate Gabe Derwin, a professional sport stacker, guided students through the routine before they broke out into pairs to go for their own attempts. Students practiced the stacking to try to achieve the quickest time possible. Each student gave their best attempt to stack their cups as fast as they could as they were individually timed by Mr. Derwin. The special occasion helped boost camaraderie as students worked together towards a goal of breaking a worldwide record.
