North Merrick’s Parent University on October 22 focused on the joy of reading. Author Selene Castrovilla was the keynote speaker who described her love of writing and history, and she later signed copies of her books.
Ms. Castrovilla talked to parents about choosing good books for their children, and Jackie Perez discussed the many resources available to families at the North Merrick Public Library. Meanwhile, students participated in a variety of workshops ranging from “A Spooktacular Night” to “Rainbow Fish,” in which teachers read a picture book, and students created a related craft such as friendship bracelets, tangrams, and decorated planters. They then topped off the evening with cookies and milk!
