World Read Aloud Day 2022

North Merrick schools participated in the annual World Read Aloud Day on February 2 with virtual visits from authors from around the country.  World Read Aloud Day was founded by Lit World to celebrate the power of reading aloud.

Twelve authors connected with North Merrick classes based on the grade level of their writing. For instance, the upper grades spoke to author Marianne Malone regarding her four-book series called The Sixty-Eight Rooms, whose main characters are two sixth graders who discover a magic key to enter miniature rooms and travel through time. Similarly, author Elaine Vickers talked to younger students about her book Thankful, a picture book with pop-up illustrations, which finds the special meaning in everyday things.
