North Merrick Celebrates Camp Avenue's 100th Anniversary
Camp Avenue School celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a special gathering of students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff on May 12.
Over 500 people attended the celebration, meeting and greeting alumni from the 1960s through the present and were entertained by a medley of songs by Camp students led by music teacher Rachel Lajara.
Everyone enjoyed going down memory lane and glimpsing vintage photos of the building, classes and even the blueprints of the additions to the school. Camp Avenue was built to serve as the first school in the North Merrick School District and was originally a 10-room building.
A surprise video by singer Debbie Gibson, who is also a Camp alumna, greeted visitors on their arrival. See the video.
