Sixth Grade Field Day

North Merrick sixth graders from the three district schools became teammates during Field Day on May 29 at the Harold D. Fayette School. The students participated in seven team events, such as tug of war and obstacle, tennis and water relays along with six individual events, including a 50-yard dash, running long jump and basketball shoot. The focus of the day was on teamwork, good sportsmanship, and doing one’s best. Students had the opportunity to see or meet students from the other schools in friendly competition before moving up together to Merrick Avenue Middle School in September. Says physical education teacher Karen Nolan, “We wanted our students to leave the field on a really positive note, to feel great about exercise, participation and being social.”
